Kitchen Design Inspiration: Focusing on the details

When designing your dream kitchen it’s natural to focus on the bigger elements first. Your choice of cabinet style, colour and finish is obviously the overriding look of your space. However the true magic and the aspects you can’t wait to show friends and family often lie in the smaller details.

These finishing touches can bring personality, bespoke functionality and help you to create a place you love to spend time in. Whether you’re renovating a large or small space with a tight or infinite budget, paying attention to these details can make all the difference.

Worktops and Splashbacks

More than just a place to work and wipe down after meals, worktops and splashbacks can bring real character and definition to your space. From corian to quartz, glass to wood finishes there has never been more choice.

Add a splash of colour with a vibrant splashback, or a contoured wooden curved breakfast bar. Go bold with a darker worktop on a kitchen island or bring the outside in with glass artwork to reflect the textures and contours of your view.

Clever Storage

Having a place for everything doesn’t just make your kitchen easy to work in, but helps you to remove clutter from your worktops and make your space feel more open and organised.
Modern pantries are a great addition if your space allows or pull out drawers within your kitchen cabinets for pots, pans and under used kitchen appliances can work well.

For small kitchens open shelving can give the illusion of more space whilst still providing a storage option while larger kitchens could consider concealed utility storage to keep your open plan space clear from the day to day jobs.

Sinks and Taps

Often an overlooked area when designing your kitchen layout but sinks and taps can help bring your style to life. With Belfast sinks for a traditional kitchen feel or Quooker taps and double sinks to elevate a modern kitchen they can add much functionality and aesthetics to your overall design.

Handled with Care

As with your sinks and taps how you open your kitchen cupboards can be integral to your overall look; pick the wrong ones and it will be all you see! Shaker styles can take most handle options, whereas country kitchens would benefit from a more traditional bar or knob. If your kitchen design has a large number of cupboards you may want to consider handleless, touch open or bars to soften your overall scheme.

Lighting and Illumination

Kitchen lighting can make or break the atmosphere of your space. While functional spots are crucial for cooking and prepping, statement lighting fixtures can bring style and warmth to the room. The right lighting can highlight key features such as your dining area, create ambiance, and make your kitchen feel inviting...

Space to Entertain

Open plan kitchens that combine living areas as part of the overall space can make the perfect place to entertain family and friends. With working spaces, areas to chill and bars to get the party started you can create a design that’s ready for the every day and the extraordinary.
