Kitchens are now multi-functional spaces to gather and spend time in rather than just cook meals. Designing a scheme that can effortlessly switch between cooking, dining, entertaining and relaxing is a challenge the Atlantis team thrive on. So what will be the key kitchen trends for next year that will tick all the boxes that today’s kitchen has to tick? We asked our design team what they see themselves designing more of in 2024.

Go bold with your paint colour

This has definitely been a trend in 2023, and we see it continuing into next year as well. A number of customers have sought to incorporate darker colours and woods, such as walnut, to add drama to their kitchen designs. If your kitchen is part of a larger open-plan space, adding a real splash of bold colour to your kitchen cabinets can really help you add personality to this area.

The white kitchen has certainly not disappeared, but we now look to incorporate some complementary design elements. This can be a wooden worktop, a statement appliance, a mix of white and bold-colour cabinets, a kitchen island feature, or a tiled splashback to add a different dimension to this popular classic.

Move to a greener kitchen

The popular blue and grey colours for kitchen cabinets are now competing with requests for more greener tones, reflecting a desire to create a more calming environment from a nature inspired palette. We’re also designing kitchens using more natural materials overall for worktops, flooring and splashbacks.

This drive for a more sustainable, environmentally friendly kitchen is also being taken into account in appliance choices. Smarter kitchen technology, lighting, Quooker taps and extraction can offer long-term savings in running costs, and we see these becoming essential elements of future kitchen designs.

Statement lighting

Lighting is always key in a kitchen. With more open-plan living, what you choose to light your space is becoming as much about the interior design of the whole area as about the practical aspects of lighting work areas. Pendants over islands and dining spaces will continue to be a popular design choice, with many styles available to complement traditional and ultra-modern schemes.

Kitchen styling now includes open shelves to bridge the gap between the living and dining spaces and the kitchen. With feature lighting, these can make a fantastic design statement in smaller kitchen schemes where an island is not practical.

Drinks cabinets

With many people now entertaining at home rather than going out, Gin Bars and fancy drinks cabinets are becoming desirable items. This can be designed to reflect the style of your kitchen and include everything you need from a fridge to keep your mixers cool and garnishes fresh to the all-important glasses.
